My high school track and field coach gave me the name Froggy. He was not very good at remembering names, so he gave us all nicknames, and those nicknames tended to stick.

I was a long jumper, and there was one particular drill we had to do during practice where you basically jump like a frog. I'm not sure if I was really good at it or just looked funny doing it, but he associated me with that drill, so he started calling me Froggy.

I kept the name after high school because it was easier for people to remember than my birth name, and I liked it better anyway. In my mid-20s, when I came to terms with being nonbinary, I never bothered to choose another new first name since Froggy is already gender neutral.

As for Phevoli, I came up with that one myself. I find my legal last name to be very aesthetically boring, plus it's often mispronounced, so I wanted something different to use as a pen name and social media handle. The meaning is a subtle shout-out to my favorite book series of all time. (Hint: Read it backwards.)

I currently have three other books planned to make Side Effect a series.

One of them is a collection of short stories that will be titled "Side Effect: Stories on the Side," with each story focusing on a different character. Some of the stories will dive deeper into Occuarian lore, while others will simply be a way to get to know certain side characters better.

The other two do not yet have titles, but one will be a prequel novel, and the other will be a sequel novel. The prequel will be about Quigley Dalton and Zack's parents, while the sequel will be about Zack's children.
